Scarlett Johansson has come under fire from some quarters for her latest comments regarding Woody Allen.
Johansson has worked with the director on several occasions, and in a new interview said that she would not hesitate to do so again.
While many big-name stars have denounced Allen – who was accused of childhood abuse by his adopted daughter Dylan, although never charged with any offence – few have publicly come out in support of him. Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchett and Diane Keaton are in the minority, with Baldwin previously claiming that it was “unfair and sad” how he had been treated. Others, such as Colin Firth and Timothee Chalamet, have expressed regret about working with him in the past.
Johansson told The Hollywood Reporter: “I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him any time.”
She added that she had directly asked the 83-year-old director about the allegations. “I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it,”she said. “I have been very direct with him, and he’s very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him.”
Allen is currently in Spain shooting new film 'Rivkin's Festival', starring Christoph Waltz and Gina Gershon. His previous film, 'A Rainy Day in New York', will be released in several territories this month after initially being shelved. Allen is currently in a legal battle with Amazon, one of that film's main funders. They pulled a four-film deal citing his comments on #MeToo.
