Saoirse Ronan's last couple of screen credits have included Wes Anderson's 'The French Dispatch' and romantic drama 'Ammonite'. Now she's lined up her next movie project.
Saoirse Ronan has been cast in the big screen adaptation of 'The Outrun', which is based on Amy Liptrot's best-selling memoir of the same name.
In the book, Amy relates coming home to the island of Orkney, Scotland, as she grapples with the force of alcoholism that has controlled the last decade of her life.
Having done a stint in rehab, Amy finds solace in the nature of her surroundings.
Saoirse Ronan describes feeling immediately connected to the author.
In a statement the actress says: "It was Amy’s voice that first drew me to 'The Outrun'.
"Her unusual way of seeing things in a way that perhaps you only can when you’ve been to the darkest place you can go within yourself.
"I have been waiting to play a part like this — the messiness, hopefulness, dreaminess, authenticity and humor we want to achieve — I've been scared of it, but with Nora I feel ready."
Nora Fingscheidt is set to direct 'The Outrun', having just recently helmed Netflix thriller 'The Unforgivable', starring Sandra Bullock.
Nora and Amy co-wrote the script.
'The Outrun' will be introduced to buyers at next month's European Film Market.
Saoirse Ronan is one of the producers on it as well as its star.
Saoirse is a four-time Oscar nominee for her roles in 'Atonement', 'Brooklyn', 'Ladybird' and 'Little Women'.
She also has the whodunit 'See How They Run' in the pipeline as well as 'Foe', in which she stars opposite Paul Mescal.
