Having proven herself as an incredibly versatile actress, it’s pretty much accepted that Saoirse Ronan can turn her hand to any genre.
However, the Irish contingent in the ‘Barbie’ film may have doubled (alongside Nicola Coughlan’s role) if things had worked out, as Ronan has revealed that she was actually in line to make a cameo in Greta Gerwig’s film.
The Carlow-raised actress was speaking to Variety about her forthcoming film ‘The Outrun’, when the topic of working with Greta Gerwig again - following their collaboration on ‘Lady Bird’ - was broached.
Ronan confirmed Timothee Chalamet’s previous comments that they were both supposed to make cameos in last year’s hit film - saying that she was supposed to be a Weird Barbie, alongside Kate McKinnon.
“I don’t know what he was going to be, but I was definitely going to be a Weird Barbie,” she said. “I don’t know how to take that. I would have been with Kate McKinnon, so that would have been nice. I had a scene but didn’t ever get to do it, and it wasn’t in the movie.”
She added that she can’t remember what the scene was supposed to be, “but it was weird. I think I’d be the strange girl who talked to herself and always had her pet dog with her and always talked to the dog and wouldn’t look at anyone.”
There’s always the sequel, if it happens…
