Sandra Bullock is fuming about the haters who tore down the female reboot of ‘Ghostbusters’, and she is not afraid to let people know it. The actress was asked about the film on the red carpet at the New York premiere of her new film ‘Ocean’s 8.’
‘Ocean’s 8’ is itself an all-female reboot of Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s trilogy, which starred the likes of George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon.
In Bullock’s movie, she is joined by a hugely impressive cast which boasts the likes of Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Rihanna and Awkwafina.
Bullock was with the latter when she was asked about the backlash the 2016 film ‘Ghostbusters’ received.
“That was unfair on a level that I can’t even not be mad about talking about,” Bullock said. “They literally walked into a firing squad.”
“You had five of the most gifted comedian actresses on the planet — I’m just gonna leave it at that,” she added in reference to the movie's cast members Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Cecily Strong. “And it doesn’t just take five people to make a movie. It takes about 300, so, you know what? Let’s back off the meanness. Let’s have a year of kindness.
“The women are here — we’re not going anywhere. But this isn’t about just women. We like sitting at the table with men. We just want to be invited to their table as well because we like them at our table.”
Awkwafina added that people should watch the movie before tearing it down online first, saying: “My advice for those people is just watch the movie first and then go on Reddit. It’s as simple as that. Watch it first.”
