The sign of a good actor is one who'll go to any lengths necessary to fully realise their role. Some gain weight, some lose it, some allow themselves appear on screen looking like they've been dug up - see Charlize Theron in Monster - while others, like Ryan Gosling endure a bit of nappy rash for the greater good of cinema. Noice.
For his forthcoming flick, the sure-to-impress Gangster Squad, poor Gosling says he was so uncomfortable that it actually ended up aiding his performance.
In an interview with People Magazine, the former Mickey Mouse star said: "The wool was quite itchy, so I had a rash... I channelled that irritation into my hatred for the gangsters."
Speaking of the person his character is based upon, Gosling said: "His kids came to the set and told me a lot of stories and a lot of great details... Like, when he would ash his cigarette, he would ash into the cuff of his pants. Then at the end of the day, he would dump out his cuffs, dump out all the ashes."
