The armorer at the centre of the case around the tragic shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of 'Rust' has been sentenced.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was sentenced to 18 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter, after a jury found last month that she had loaded a live bullet in the gun that was fired by actor Alec Baldwin.

The incident happened in Santa Fe, New Mexico in October 21st, where Gutierrez-Reed was responsible for all weaponry on the set of the film, which was directed by Joel Souza. Both he and Ms. Hutchins were hit by the bullet fired by Baldwin.

Gutierrez-Reed had begged the judge not to give her more jail time in a statement read out before her sentencing, saying "The jury has found me in part at fault for this God-awful tragedy but that doesn’t make me a monster."

However, Judge Mary Marlow said that phone calls she had made from prison in recent weeks describing the jurors in the trial as 'retards', 'idiots' and 'a**holes' as evidence that she does not take any accountability for her actions.

"You alone turned a safe weapon into a lethal weapon," the judge told her. "But for you, Ms. Hutchins would be alive, a husband would have his partner and a little boy would have his mother."

Baldwin will face his own trial for involuntary manslaughter in July. The actor has maintained that he did not pull the trigger on the gun that fired the fatal shot, but an FBI report and independent forensic analysis contradicts that claim.

Filming on 'Rust', meanwhile, resumed last April, although there is no release date set for the movie as yet.
