Leonardo DiCaprio is no stranger to rejection when it comes to the Academy Awards, however he's heavily favourited to win at this year's ceremony thanks to his powerhouse performance in The Revenant.
The film, which was filmed on location in the wilds of Alaska, saw DiCaprio put through the ringer, both mentally and physically, to deliver one of the year's best films. DiCaprio has been nominated at least five Oscars, including one for Best Supporting Actor, but has yet to take one home with him.
That may all change however, regardless of whether or not he wins on February 28th. A campaign has been launched on Russian social media by predominantly female fans to gather together enough jewellery to melt down so they can build DiCaprio an Oscar.
Yes, really.
According to Tatyana Yegorova, who has spearheaded the campaign, just over 100 women so far have donated to the campaign. Some women have even given a single earring in the belief that it will make them feel closer to DiCaprio.
As Tatyana explains, "Yakutia praises high-quality cinema and considers DiCaprio to be an actor who can inspire and delight his audiences." Their Oscar will be based upon the statuette, however will be made entirely of silver, with the sword replaced a Yakutian choron - which is a type of goblet, apparently.
It might not be the real deal, but at least he'll have some type of statuette to take home with him if he doesn't get his way. In the meantime, you can read all our predictions for this year's Oscars, including who we think will take home the Best Picture gong.
