French filmmaker Luc Besson is to take his finger out of his arse and actually direct a mainstream film, having produced a series of action flicks. Besson has written the script for and will direct Mr Robert De Niro in Malavita.
According to Variety the film is about a retired American gangster living with his family under the witness protection program in Normandy. The story is, somewhat ironically, based on the Tonino Benacquista penned book, Badfellas. I wonder why they changed the title...
Besson directed The Lady last year, but hasn’t directed a mainstream flick since Joan of Arc. He's responsible for the brilliant Leon, so hopefully he's back on form for this De Niro collaboration.
