Fox have announced a raft of release dates for their 2016 slate.

First up is the upcoming X-Men spinoff movie, Gambit.

Channing Tatum's first superhero role will hit cinema screens in October of 2016 and follows on from X-Men: Apocalypse, which will be in cinemas in May of 2016.

Although it hasn't been officially confirmed, it's safe to assume Tatum will turn up in X-Men: Apocalypse in some role, be it an extended cameo or a post-credits stinger.

Meanwhile, the follow-up to 2014's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - trying saying that quickly - is being pushed back to July of 2017.

This means we'll have to wait two whole years to see more monkey action on our screens. There's been no word on who's directing, although don't be surprised if Andy Serkis - who played Caesar in the previous two - is tapped to take over.

Serkis is currently working on a Jungle Book film as director, and given his fantastic performance in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, it's not all that outlandish to see him directing the follow-up.

Our own Michael Fassbender is squaring up against some big competition at the local cinema in 2016.

Assassin's Creed, based on the popular videogame series, will be released in cinemas ONE WEEK after the first Star Wars spin-off movie.

December is now becoming a blockbuster month at cinemas, with The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar, Avatar and Star Wars: The Force Awakens all seeing December releases.

We're not five days in 2015 and already we're planning our calender for 2016. Get excited.
