N(e)ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
It’s early days and it isn’t known what form the project will take but Warner Brothers are reportedly in the early stages of developing a relaunch (or reloading, if you will) of the iconic 1999 hit sci fi flick The Matrix.
Zac Penn, who wrote the story for Last Action Hero, X-Men 2 and The Avengers, is in talks to write a treatment.
Sources say that there’s interest around Michael B. Jordan, who played the lead roles in Creed and Fruitvale Station, starring but the project is at too early a stage to confirm this yet.
At this point, the Wachowski siblings, who wrote and directed the original and its two sequels, are not involved and the nature of their potential engagement with a new version has yet to be determined. However, it is being reported that Warners are hoping to at least get the Wachowskis’ blessing before they pursue the project.
During his press tour for John Wick 2, original Matrix star Keanu Reeves said he would be open to returning to another installment provided the Wachowskis wrote and directed it. It is more likely, however, that the movie studio will be looking for some new star and director for the reboot. Maybe there’ll be a cameo from Reeves? It’s anyone’s guess at this point.
