Disney is starting to bank in on some of the franchises they inherited from their deal with Fox...
A new 'Predator' movie is on the way, and it's a prequel, taking place before the events of any prior installment.
Set in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, it follows Naru, the skilled warrior who must fiercely protect her tribe against a highly evolved alien.
The movie is titled 'Prey'. Its original working title was 'Skulls'.
Amber Midthunder ('Legion', 'Roswell, New Mexico') leads the cast in the role of Naru.
The director behind 'Prey' is Dan Trachtenberg, who previously helmed '10 Cloverfield Lane'.
The 'Predator' franchise kicked off in 1987 with the Arnold Schwarzenegger-led debut.
Its first sequel hit cinemas in 1990, led by Danny Glover.
'Predators', starring Adrien Brody, followed in 2010.
The latest - 'The Predator' - was released in 2018, and had Shane Black as its director.
The series also found a crossover in the 'Alien vs. Predator' movies, which hit cinemas in 2004 and 2007.
'Prey' debuts on streaming service Hulu in the US and on Disney+ (via Star) internationally.
'Prey' currently does not have a release date. However, it is expected to drop sometime in the summer of 2022.
