There are a few examples of directors' children following their parents into the same industry, but something like 'Possessor' is actually kind of rare.
Directed by Brandon Cronenberg, 'Possessor' follows an assassin - played by Andrea Riseborough - who assumes the identity of other people via a microchip inserted into their brain. However, the process of invading other people's minds so that they can kill other people has begun to warp her own reality.
The movie is described as an ultraviolent sci-fi body horror thriller, which is exactly the kind of thing that his dear old dad, David, would make.
'Possessor' screened during Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and is already being cited by several US outlets as among the best movies of the year so far.
As for when it'll get a release on this side of the Atlantic, nobody's really sure. Don't be surprised, either, if this ends up going straight to VOD. The trailer, meanwhile, has a similar vibe to 'Alien' with the slowly-appearing text, but everything else makes it look like some kind of '70s arthouse horror movie.
All in all, it's a movie nerd's dream. Take a look at the red-band trailer to see what we mean.
