Sam Raimi is to produce a remake of the Tobe Hooper directed/Steven Spielberg produced 80s haunted house flick, Poltergeist.
I actually watched the original not but a few months ago, and it's a solid if fairly tame horror flick that has actually been done much better since - the first two thirds of Insidious spring to mind. Raimi hasn’t settled on a director yet, but he's at least a lot more concentrated on character and story then Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes company - with the rare exception - who churn these out on a regular basis.
MGM, the studio behind this and the original, are also shepherding a remake of Carrie with Chloe Mortez in the lead role and Boys Don't Cry helmer Kimberly Peirce calling the shots.
