Tommy Palotta's career to date has been a fascinating one.
Beginning as a PA on Richard Linklater's early films, Palotta went on to revitalise the art of rotoscoping in films and put it to use in A Scanner Darkly and Waking Life. As well as this, Palotta also was one of the first directors to work with gaming as a form of filmmaking and created the world's first machinima-produced music video.
We spoke to Tommy about his latest film, Last Hijack, and how the strange story of Somali pirates came to be and why he chose rotoscoping as a way of telling their story. We also spoke about some upcoming work, including a planned biopic of the late comedian Bill Hicks.
