In just a few short weeks, Room will be up against some of the biggest films of 2015 when it goes to the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards.
Adapted by Emma O'Donoghue from her novel and directed by Lenny Abrahamson, Room is the gripping story of a young mother and child who are imprisoned in a small room by an unseen figure known only as Old Nick. While it does have certain parallels with Josef Fritzl, Room is a work of fiction - something Abrahamson stressed when we met with him for this podcast.
Abrahamson is now one of Ireland's most acclaimed directors and, in his first US film, he discusses working with child actor Jacob Tremblay on such adult material, how he worked out the film's unique visuals and working with Emma O'Donoghue's screenplay from her own novel.
