John Crowley is one of Ireland's most critically-acclaimed directors and has worked with some of the most well-known actors working today.
Having begun his career with the Irish crime classic, Intermission, Crowley's forged a career in both theatre, film and, more recently, prestige television. His work on HBO's True Detective has been lauded as some of the troubled season's best episodes. His latest film, Brooklyn, is now in serious contention at this year's Oscars.
We talked to John about working with Nic Pizzolatto on True Detective, his extensive work in theatre and how it compares to film and how Brooklyn reflects Irish diaspora to this day. He also talked about his influences on Brooklyn and True Detective and shooting in Toronto as opposed to New York.
