The actor first made a name for himself as Legolas in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It’s hard to believe but the first instalment of the trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring, hit cinemas fifteen years ago.
The trilogy, which also included The Two Towers and The Return of the King, was shot (excluding pick-ups) over a year in New Zealand between 1999 and 2000.
There was much bonding over the course of that envious shoot of what is probably the greatest trilogy of fantasy films ever (we’re sticking Star Wars into sci fi for argument's sake here).
Yesterday, Orlando Bloom shared an old photo on Instagram from when he and the rest of the Lord of the Rings cast got matching tattoos to celebrate the end of filming.
Bloom, Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, and Sean Bean all got the number nine written in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Elvish Tengwar script inked in a tattoo parlor in Wellington, New Zealand.
