Peter Jackson has revealed that he intends to shoot the upcoming Hobbit in 48 frames per second, according to a post he put up on Facebook. What does this mean, you may ask? Well, practically every film you've ever seen has been shot in 24 frames per second and the human eye is trained to receive this amount of information from a film screen. What Jackson intends to do is to double this amount of information, therefore introducing what should be a whole new level of clarity to the film. Jackson said, "The key thing to understand is that this process requires both shooting and projecting at 48fps, so the result looks like normal speed but the image has hugely enhanced clearness." Will this go on to become industry standard in Hollywood? We can only imagine that James Cameron is licking his lips in anticipation to see how well this works.
