The hit Broadway musical, originally starring Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenowith, is coming to the big screen on 20 December, 2019.
According to the Sun, an X-Factor judge is in talks to take on the lead role of Elphaba, aka the Wicked Witch of the West.
Can you guess who it is? Here’s another hint – she could be described as Catty.
Yup, it’s Nicole Scherzinger who is in talks for the role and according to reports, “There’s still some way to go before a final decision but she’s very much in the frame for the job.”
Nicole most recently made her West End debut in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Cats at the London Palladium in 2015. The role earned her an Olivier Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical.
The singer has been making a break in film lately too, recently starring in Moana and she also has a role in the upcoming Dirty Dancing TV movie.
Reactions on Twitter have been a mixed bag to say the least:
I swear to god if Nicole Scherzinger plays Elphaba in the Wicked movie my heart will shatter into a thousand pieces

I'm here for Nicole Scherzinger as Elphaba in the Wicked movie. She has the range for it. I don't see why not.

Listen, I want Idina to star in the Wicked movie as much as everyone, but Nicole Scherzinger IS classically trained in musical theatre.
