Things are not going well for Michael Fassbender's Assassin's Creed movie adaptation.
Fassbender produced the $125 million film, bringing in his Macbeth director Justin Kurzel to add a bit of class to proceedings. Well it proved an odd fitting for Kurzel who struggled to make sense of the plot or put together decent action sequences.
'Creed' is projected to make $22.2 million over 6 days, and will need to hit hard at the global box-office hard to recoup its budget. That isn't impossible given how well video game adaptations perform worldwide - Warcraft is one of the biggest hits of all time in China, despite bombing in the US.
To be fair Rogue One's success has picked up another casualty, as the Star Wars film continues to destroy the competition; the star-heavy Jennifer Lawrence/Chris Pratt sci-fi romance, Passengers, also bombed - taking a marginally better projection of $26.2 million for the 6 day Christmas period. It cost around $110 million to produce, but could have shorter legs than 'Creed' globally.
Sony tried to counter-programme Rouge One with another tentpole - which rarely works. The Felicity Jones starring 'One' sped way past $100 million for four days, taking it to a staggering $330 million domestically. Animated flick Sing is actually performing well, pulling in the family crowd and a projected $74.1 million.
