Well summer is well and truly over now folks; October is upon us but so too are many exciting movies. Below we take a look at some of the highlights coming your way over the coming weeks; some of which fit nicely into the Halloween theme which awaits us towards the end of the month.
Skyfall | October 26th
The movie we're most excited for, one of the most anticipated flicks of 2012, is Skyfall. Skyfall sees Daniel Craig back as James Bond 007 in the 23rd installment of the longest-running film franchise in history. Bond’s loyalty to M (JUDI DENCH) is tested as her past returns to haunt her. 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost. Berenice Marlohe, Naomie Harris, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Judi Denchal also star.
Ruby Sparks | October 12th
Ruby Sparks tells the sweet and original story of a novelist (Paul Dano) struggling with writer's block who finds romance in a most unusual way: by creating a female character (Zoe Kazan) he thinks will love him, then willing her into existence. From the directors of Little Miss Sunshine, Ruby Sparks boasts a stellar supporting cast among which Annette Benning, Antonio Banderas and Steve Coogan are included. Interviews with the cast and crew will be live on site from October 8th.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower | October 3rd
Perks sees an introvert freshman get taken under the wings of two seniors who welcome him to the real world. Reviewed already by our Gavin Burke, presenting Emma Watson in her most mature role to date, Perks is a top teen movie. Full review here.
Sinster | October 5th
Perfect seasonal viewing, horror flick Sinister stars Ethan Hawke. Found footage helps a true-crime novelist realize how and why a family was murdered in his new home, though his discoveries put his entire family in the path of a supernatural entity. Atmospheric and nicely structured, Sinister promises to be a solid entry to the haunted house canon. Check out our full review here.
Hotel Transylvania | October 12th
Don't be expecting this one to scare you; Adam Sandler stars as an animated Dracula, but the kids will surely enjoy it. Hotel Transylvania is a lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families can live it up, free to be the monsters they are without humans to bother them. On one special weekend, Dracula has invited some of the world’s most famous monsters - Frankenstein and his bride, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, a family of werewolves, and more - to celebrate his daughter Mavis's 118th birthday. For Drac, catering to all of these legendary monsters is no problem - but his world could come crashing down when one ordinary guy stumbles on the hotel and takes a shine to Mavis.
On The Road | October 12th
On the Road is the film adaption of the cult classic novel of the same name from 1951 by Jack Kerouac. The film follows friends Sal Paradise(Sam Riley) and Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund) as they embark on a journey across America following the death of Sal's father. Their cross country adventure is a fast paced and energetic rolloarcoaster ride with numerous highs and lows for both friends. The cast also includes some star names with Kirsten Stewart, Kirsten Dunst, Amy Adams and Viggo Mortensen. The film has been in the making for some years and will finally get its release later this year and will hopefully be worth the wait.
Frankenweenie | October 17th
Another Halloween themed one for both kids and adults, from creative genius Tim Burton ("Alice in Wonderland," "The Nightmare Before Christmas") comes "Frankenweenie," a heart-warming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life - with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new "leash on life" can be monstrous.
Madagascar 3 | October 19th
The third installment from the Madgascar franchise, Madgascar 3 finds Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melman still fighting to get home to their beloved Big Apple. Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a traveling circus, which they reinvent - Madagascar style. As always, a promising cast. The perfect antidote to that summer-to-winter transition.
Stitches | October 26th
A surefire Halloween crowd pleaser, comedian Ross Noble stars as a scary clown who comes back from the dead to haunt those who took his life during a fatal party mishap.
