A movie called 'The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent' where Nicolas Cage plays himself? This is right up our street.
Nicolas Cage is said to be joining the likes of John Malkovich, Jean Claude Van Damme, and David Hasselhoff in playing a movie role based on himself. News coming in from The Hollywood Reporter is that Cage could be returning to cinema screens in the very near future as a deal with movie studio Lionsgate nears final negotiations.
Allegedly, Cage's new flick is entitled 'The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent' and would see the 55-year-old Hollywood A-lister play himself as he desperately tries to nab a role in a movie directed by Quentin Tarantino.
In the movie, Nicolas Cage is said to be dealing with a strained relationship with his teenage daughter, while he occasionally speaks to an egotistical 1990's version of himself who makes fun of him for starring in too many awful movies in the past.
The meta movie will have Cage on as a Producer, and includes nods to some of his infamous movie roles, such as 'Face-Off' and 'Gone in 60 Seconds'.
Whether the 'Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood' director also makes an appearance in the movie is yet unknown - although he is not currently lined up to direct the flick. Tom Gormican, who wrote and directed the rom-com 'That Awkward Moment' with Zac Efron is currently at the helm.
According to sources, Nicolas Cage only became involved in the project in recent weeks after the director sent the actor the script accompanied with a letter "pleading his case and saying how the piece was a love letter to the actor, not something that made fun of him."
Could this be the redemption Nicolas Cage has been searching for all his acting life? Hopefully we'll get more details on the project very soon.
