With the release of Suicide Squad, The Shallows and Ben-Hur, blockbuster season is finishing out in the month of August.

It's not just blockbusters in cinemas, however, with comedies like Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates and War Dogs hitting our screens, not to mention a few family-friendly films in the mix.

Take a look!

AUGUST 5th

Suicide Squad

The first comic-book movie to date that focuses on the villains, Suicide Squad brings together DC Comics' most iconic villains - Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Killer Croc, Diablo, Captain Boomerang and (gulp) The Joker - in one film. Super sketchy government agent Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) comes up with a unique plan for putting some of the worst criminals in history to work in exchange for commuted and reduced sentences, with the best part being if they die or get caught, they've got complete deniability.

AUGUST 10th

Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates

Loosely based on a true story, two n'er-do-well bros (Adam Devine and Zac Efron) need to come up with two presentable young women to attend a wedding and put an advertisement up on Craigslist. Sensing an opportunity for free booze and an all-expenses-paid trip to Hawai'i, Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick accept their plea and try to pass themselves off as goody-two-shoes when, in reality, they're just as bad as the men.

AUGUST 12th

Pete's Dragon

Robert Redford, Karl Urban and Bryce Dallas Howard star in this remake of the '70s family adventure film. A young boy is found out in the woods, seemingly living alone and without anyone's help. However, a young Park Ranger and her father who try to help the boy soon discover that he's been hiding a secret - namely, a real-life dragon has been living in the woods and helping young Pete.

The Shallows

Blake Lively stars in this stripped-back, B-movie thriller about a young woman who's trapped by a Great White Shark in a remote beach. Completely alone and stranded on a rock, she's got to try fight her way out and survive the elements with little or no resources.

AUGUST 19th

David Brent: Life On The Road

Ricky Gervais brings arguably his greatest creation, David Brent, to the big screen for the very first time. Following a similar style to the seminal sitcom, Gervais takes his band - Foregone Conclusion - on the road with the help of a documentary crew, whom he believes will be filming ala Martin Scorsese and the Rolling Stones. The reality, of course, is much more grim - it's actually for a Where Are They Now? documentary.

Lights Out

Maria Bello and Teresa Palmer star in this supernatural horror that's become something of a cult hit during its run in the US. A young woman, who's spent many years terrorised by the dark, is finally trying to move on when she realises her younger brother is suffering from the same delusions at night. The only thing is - they're actually real.

AUGUST 26th

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping

Andy Samberg stars in this mockumentary about former-teenage pop idol Conner4Real who's trying to maintain his relevancy, even though his debut album is tanking. Facing a personal crisis, Conner4Real has to get real and try reconcile himself with his former band members.

War Dogs

Miles Teller and Jonah Hill star in this outrageous true-life comedy about two twenty-something stoners who manage to secure a major government contract from the Pentagon to supply arms to Afghani militias. The contract sees them making some truly dodgy deals with shady people and running the line between corporate and criminal on a daily basis.

The Purge 3: Election Year

Several years after the events of The Purge: Anarchy, former police officer Barnes (Frank Grillo) is now in the personal security detail for a US Senator (Elizabeth Mitchell) who's running for President on a platform that would see the annual Purge outlawed once and for all.

Ben-Hur

Morgan Freeman, Jack Huston and Toby Kebell star in a new adaptation of Lew Wallace's seminal novel that sees a Jewish prince with ties to the Roman Empire charged with murder and forced to flee his homeland, only to return many years later as a champion chariot rider and do battle with his former friend.
