We're very excited for Henry Cavill's interpretation of one of the lesser successful superheroes from the comic book world - Superman. It's not that we don't love Clark Kent/Superman or think he's a pretty decent guy to have around in a crisis, it's that financially, Superman movies have failed to come close to the success of the more recent Batman and Spiderman movies. Movie makers kind of lost interest after the Christopher Reeve years, it seems. What's more, though generally considered an OK movie, Bryan Singer's 2006 offering of Superman Returns just hasn't remained a talking point. We haven't been aware of its presence on too many Best Comic Book Adaptations lists, have you? On top of that, Brandon Routh isn't a name we hear mentioned too often. Before that, the last Superman movie (Superman IV: The Quest for Peace) came out in 1987. So yeah, we could probably do better in 2013, what with all of our technological advancements and our tendency to delve into darker territory, story wise.

Far greater are our hopes for Zack Snyder's more psychological and realistic Man of Steel. Especially knowing Chris Nolan's involved at a producer level. Henry Cavill, we believe, will have a different experience than his forgettable predecessor, Routh. Not since Christopher Reeve first donned the blue onesie in 1978 has an actor seemed more suited to the role (we're thinking of all the TV interpretations here too, y'see). He's not just some hot jock-looking nerd in a pair of geeky classes who transforms into Mr Charming once he rips off his shirt to reveal his suit; from what we've seen of the trailer, Cavill fully embodies the characteristics of Superman, and there's not a hint of hamminess in sight. Our hairs stand on end watching it too. Do yours?

Well that's what we think. Guess we'll have to wait and see the full feature to find out whether it'll rejuvinate a character who really deserves to take the spotlight. Though if these bullet pointed reactions to an advance screening (from Screenrant.com) are anything to go by, we've hit the nail squarely on the head.

Imagine a Nolan story with Snyder effects/action.
It’s the best movie of the year.
There's TONS of action with Superman kicking all kinds of ass in his suit.
The cape is CG’d most of the time so it can look awesome.
They have intentionally left out most of the the Super action in trailers to save it.
It's not nearly as dour and serious as the trailers suggest.
The movie is complete, minus the 3D post-conversion, which is currently taking place.
