1995's 'Mortal Kombat' is one of the best examples of how to NOT adapt a videogame into a movie.
For one, it feels pretty clear that nobody had a clue how to make it work. Secondly, there was the fact that you had Christopher Lambert - the guy from 'Highlander' - as Raiden. Third, the special effects looked ridiculous even back then. So, what manner of hubris exists in the world to think anyone can make a better stab at it?
Well, that's for executive producer James Wan and director Simon McQuoid to figure out as a new adaptation of 'Mortal Kombat' is now officially happening. The movie is set to begin production this Autumn and will shoot in Australia. McQuoid is best known for directing some of the advertisements for 'Halo 3' and the Sony PlayStation, however 'Mortal Kombat' will be his first feature-length movie.
No casting has been announced as of yet. However, Ronda Rousey is expected to be cast as Sonya Blade as she voiced the character in 'Mortal Kombat 11'. After that is anyone's guess. If there's justice in the world, Christopher Lambert won't get the call to reprise his role as Raiden. No offence, just he was horribly miscast and everyone knows it.
