Believe it or not, next year will be the 25th anniversary of Wayne's World.
Let that sink in for a moment and recognise that a lot has changed in the world since then. We have iPhones, you're reading this on a computer or a phone, heavy metal is now gone from our airwaves, the world is no longer Wayne's World and that, friends, is a damn shame.
In a recent interview with CTV, Myers was asked about the possibility of bringing back Wayne's World for a third time and his response was hopeful if a bit guarded. "It would be an interesting examination of Wayne at 50... I don’t know what it would look like, but the idea of it makes me laugh and Dana (Carvey) and I had a blast at the 40th anniversary (of SNL), so I don’t know."
Wayne's World was brought for SNL's 40th anniversary and was definitely a highlight of the show. What's more, a fan has even attempted to crowdfund a third Wayne's World to drum up interest, but so far nothing.
This isn't the first time Mike Myers has been quizzed about a dormant film series, either. Jay Roach, the director who helmed all three of the Austin Powers films, said that there had been "serious discussions" about a fourth one. Granted, this is all academic about Wayne's World.
For one, the world's moved on since Wayne's World and you can't really build a film just around that premise. Secondly, Mike Myers doesn't need the work and thirdly, shouldn't it be left in the past where it belongs? These are all valid questions, but this is mainstream cinema and there's nothing new or original under the sun - so expect the announcement for Wayne's World 3 any day now.
