Michael Douglas has expressed interest in playing a young Hank Pym in a prequel to ‘Ant-Man’.
Now that Stage 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is coming to an end – with only this summer’s ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ as well as ‘Captain Marvel’ and ‘Avengers 4’ to go – it makes sense to be thinking about ideas for new Marvel movies.
Moreover, the idea of Douglas, who turns 74 in September, playing a younger version of himself isn’t all that far-fetched given he was previously de-aged for sequences in the first ‘Ant-Man’ movie. CGI was also used to de-age Robert Downey Jr. for the opening sequence in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and to make Kurt Russell look younger at the start of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’.
Douglas, who has been on the road promoting ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’, pitched the idea to ComicBookMovie.com of a feature revolving around a young Pym and Janet Van Dyne and their adventures during the 1980s.
"I’d like to see him, if there’s magic, we do movie magic in terms of flashbacks. How about getting Hank back to his prime age as the Original Ant-Man and kick some serious ass?" he said.
"I’m ready. I’m geared. I need a good stunt double. You know, I’ll find him, but you can make me look 40 years younger let’s do the whole job!"
‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ sees Douglas reunite with Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, while new additions include Michelle Pfeiffer and Laurence Fishburne.
The film has been described as Marvel’s first 'romantic comedy', and early reactions to it have been in high praise of its comedic tone and Rudd’s singing.
It hits cinemas on August 3rd.
