If you're of a certain vintage and you had a semi-decent PC in your house, there's a good chance you'll remember Duke Nukem.
For those that had friends when they were young and went outside a lot more, Duke Nukem was a staple of early PC gaming and featured a cigar-chomping, Arnold Schwarzenegger-aping antihero who blew away monsters, zombies and anything else with his trusty shotgun. The game's been around since 1991 and plans for a live-action movie have been kicked around since the same time, but it now seems that Michael Bay's production shingle, Platinum Dunes, are the ones to do it.
What's more, Variety is reporting that wrestling legend John Cena is now in advanced talks to star in the lead role, however no director or writer has been attached as of yet. Cena's been making further moves into Hollywood, having played the lead in animated comedy Ferdinand, and had scene-stealing supporting roles in the likes of Trainwreck, Sisters and Daddy's Home 2.
Cena must have a good relationship with Bay, as he and Hailee Steinfeld are due to star in the first Transformers spinoff film, Bumblebee, which is due for release on December 21st.
No release date has been set for the Duke Nukem movie.
