'I Am Legend' was one of Will Smith's biggest successes - and now a sequel is in the works.
The original film, released in 2007 and based on the 1954 book by Richard Matheson, was set in a post-apocalyptic New York City after it is ravaged by a deadly virus.
Smith played one of the only survivors in the Francis Lawrence-directed film - but actor Michael B. Jordan has now spoken about a sequel that is in the works, which will see him team up with Smith.
The 'Black Panther' actor told People magazine that the sequel, which was originally mooted in 2022, is currently "in the works".
"We’re still working on the script and getting that up to par," he said. "It doesn’t have a release date or anything like that. I’m not sure exactly where we’re going to be filming that one, but I’m really excited to get in front of the camera with [Smith]."
He added that Smith is "somebody that I’ve looked up to for a really long time, [so] to be able to work with Will is something I’m really looking forward to. I’m really excited."
Smith had previously discussed his involvement in the sequel after many people were left questioning its plausibility, considering how his character died at the end of the first film. However, the DVD release had an alternate ending which saw him survive, "So we are going with the mythology of the DVD version where my character lived", he explained.
The script for 'I Am Legend 2' has been written by Akiva Goldsman, who also wrote the first film as well as 'The Da Vinci Code', 'A Time to Kill', 'A Beautiful Mind', 'I, Robot' and more.
