Ewan McGregor has signed up for the Amelia Earhart biopic that is to star Hilary Swank and will be directed by Mira Nair (Vanity Fair). McGregor will shoot his role of Gene Vidal, who has a passionate affair with Earhart, in Toronto just before he goes to work on the Da Vinci Code sequel/prequel - or whatever the hell they’re calling it now. Richard Gere is already signed on to play Earhart’s other half George Putnam, while Virginia Madsen will also have a role. It’s the first proper acting role for Swank in a while after she churned out a couple of wannabe crowd pleasers in The Reaping and P.S I Love You; only hitting with 'P.S.'
