Scott Miller, the CEO of 3D Realms, who created the Max Payne game, has slaughtered the film version saying: "A big problem with the film is that we do not really know what is driving Max until we see the flashback scene. In the game, we put this scene right at the front of the story for a reason. Saving this scene until mid-film is a narrative blunder, because the audience needs to empathize with Max in order to like him and understand what drives him". The action flick, which topped the American box office over the weekend is released here on November 14th; it stars Mark Wahlberg and was directed by Irishman John Moore. The trailer looks great, but evidently that's pretty much all the film has going for it. But with a budget estimated at a low $30 - $40 million, the flick looks set to be a profitable venture regardless of critical opinion. Also, Wahlberg needed to look hard again after talking to a plastic tree in The Happening.
