Matthew McConaughey has finally gotten a proper excuse to take his top off on screen, as Variety just broke the news that he's joined the cast of Steven Soderbergh's male stripper flick, Magic Mike.

Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer also star in the film based loosely on Tatum's early years as a teen stripper. Pettyfer will essentially play a young Tatum, while the Dear John star will portray the titular Mike, who apparently made his life a living hell. The film is being independently financed, and will be Soderbergh's next flick to go into production. The Oscar winning helmer has both Contagion and the Irish shot Haywire in the can awaiting release.

Perfect director for this type of material and it's good to see McConaughey actually taking risks with his career.
