He's the bookies favourite to scoop an Emmy for his work on True Detective, but it looks like Matthew McConaughey won't be returning to TV for quite some time.

Stephen King's The Stand, which was a reasonably decent TV miniseries a good few years ago, is due for a big-budget movie adaptation and McConaughey is involved.

Apparently, the actor is in talks to star as Randall Flagg - a recurring character in King's novels. The Stand takes place in post-apocalypse America where a flu-like virus has wiped out most of the population.

A band of survivors, led by McConaughey's character, are holed in Las Vegas and intent on actually crucifying anyone who comes near them. So, yeah, bad stuff.

Initial thoughts on all this? The director for this adaptation, Josh Boone, previously directed The Fault In Our Stars. So, it's fair to say that he doesn't have a history of working with apocalyptic epics - unless you consider TFIOS to be one.

That said, McConaughey's one of the finest actors of our time so he's more than capable of lifting the film up.

There's no slated release date yet, however it looks like Warner Bros. are eager to get the film up and running as it's been in the works for a good few years.
