Martin Scorsese has commented on the Marvel cinematic universe once again, now saying that they're "enjoyable", and a "new art form."

'The Irishman' director's comments come weeks after he first referred to the superhero movies as having no substance, saying "that's not cinema." He continued, "It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being."

More recently however, Scorsese has referred back to his original comment on the movies that follow the journeys of superheroes such as Thor, Spider-Man, and Captain Marvel, clarifying the situation.

He said: "Let’s say a family wants to go to an amusement park, that’s a good thing, you know. And at themes and parks there’s these cinematic expressions. They’re a new art form. It’s something different from films that are shown normally in theatres, that’s all."

The 76-year-old said that he just doesn't want these massive blockbusters to overshadow other movies that deserve to be shown in theatres too. He continued: "For them, my concern is losing the screens to massive theme park films, which I say again, they’re [their] own new art form. Cinema now is changing. We have so many venues, there are so many ways to make films. So enjoyable.

"Fine, go and it’s an event and it’s great to go to an event like an amusement park, but don’t crowd out Greta Gerwig and don’t crowd out Paul Thomas Anderson and Noah Baumbach and those people, just don’t, in terms of theatres."

Scorsese's 'The Irishman' is set for a cinematic release on November 8th, before heading to Netflix on November 27th.

Speaking of the hotly anticipated release, Netflix have released a new clip from the movie very recently which features our first look at actor Stephen Graham's character Anthony Provenzano - legs and all.

We hate to speculate - but given Martin Scorsese's latest comments, could we see the critically-acclaimed director involved in a future Marvel movie, or maybe even a whole franchise? A geek can dream.
