Martin Scorsese continues to demonstrate his belief that movies don't have to be experienced on the big screen. After his last movie 'The Irishman' ended up on Netflix, his next project, 'Killers Of The Flower Moon', is also going on demand.
'Killers of the Flower Moon' centres around the Osage Nation murders. The historical event occurred between the 1910s and '30s when sixty or more wealthy, full-blood Osage Native Americans were killed. The FBI took up the case and unravelled a major conspiracy.
Recently, its stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert de Niro offered fans a walk-on role in the movie for the charity incentive #AllInChallenge
Paramount initially agreed to finance Scorsese's latest. But they were concerned by the budget's rising cost. Reportedly it's between $180 million and $200 million.
Thus Apple has now agreed to take over both the financing and the rights.
In a move similar to 'The Irishman', 'Killers of the Flower Moon' will still hit cinemas, with Paramount distributing.
It will then premiere on the small screen via Apple TV+. This marks the biggest acquisition the company has made yet, beating out Netflix for the movie.
Apple also recently acquired 'Greyhound', a World War II triller which Tom Hanks stars in and wrote the screenplay for.
Scorsese's new movie will be shot in Oklahoma but is currently on hold.
The Oscar-winning director also recently shot a short film for BBC about his experience in isolation. It debuts on May 28th in the final episode of arts programme 'Lockdown Culture With Mary Beard'.
