Martin Scorsese likes to keep himself busy so he already has his next project after The Irishman, which stars Robert DeNiro and will see Joe Pesci emerge from retirement, set.
And right alongside him for the venture will be Leonardo DiCaprio, the pair of them having already worked on hits like Shutter Island, The Aviator and The Wolf of Wall Street.
Scorsese’s long-time production designer, Dante Ferretti, told Variety that Scorsese hopes to start shooting Flower Moon, which is an adaptation of true-crime thriller Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI, in the spring of next year, immediately after The Irishman.
According to Variety, “the story, set in the 1920s, focuses on a string of murders of members of the Osage nation in Oklahoma after oil was discovered beneath their land. The chilling series of slayings was one of the fledgling FBI’s first major homicide investigations.”
Scorsese and DiCaprio have been looking to do the project for months, and are developing it together with Imperative Entertainment, who snapped up the rights for a reported $5 million.
A script has reportedly been drafted by veteran Oscar-winning scribe Eric Roth, whose credits include Forrest Gump and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
