One of the most underrated directors working today, Mark Romanek has emerged as frontrunner to direct the film adaptation of Dan Brown's best-selling novel The Lost Symbol, the follow up to Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code, according to Darkhorizons via Deadline.
The story is set around Washington DC "where the head of the Smithsonian Institute has been kidnapped and Langdon gets mixed up in a tale blending the Freemasons, Noetic Science and a killer tattooed from head to toe." I'm assuming Tom Hanks would be coming back, and he was supposed to work with Romanek before on a gangster flick that never happened.
Romanek is arguably the best music video director of all time. He also directed the heartbreaking, criminally underrated Never Let Me Go. I'd rather see him tackle something meatier, but if this is a success and he can do what he wants then so be it.
