It's one of the most persistent maxims of movie fandom - the Star Wars prequels were terrible.

More to the point, the success of The Force Awakens and Rogue One seems to have compounded this idea into people's minds. However, there's still a few people out there defending them and the people involved - and one of them's Mark Hamill. In a recent interview with Vulture, Hamill talked pretty candidly about the fan backlash against the prequel trilogy.

"I couldn't believe some of the stuff they wrote about the prequels, even beyond 'I didn't like it...', y'know?... I'm still angry about the way they (fans) treated Jake Lloyd. He was only ten years old, that boy. He did exactly what George (Lucas) wanted him to do."

Following The Phantom Menace, Jake Lloyd more or less gave up acting as a profession. He was formally diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2015 and later was arrested for reckless driving and resisting arrest. When asked about fame, Lloyd said that he "learned to hate it when the cameras are pointed at me."
