It came as a shock to us all a few days ago when it was announced that Mrs. Doubtfire was getting a sequel. Robin Williams will be reteaming with the original director Chris Columbus and will see - hopefully - most of the cast back together again. One cast-member who won't be rejoining the sequel is Mara Wilson.
The young daughter from the original, she also played the little girl in Miracle On 34th Street and was the title character in Mathilda. In short, she was an integral part of your childhood. She's since given up acting altogether and is now a writer.
She took to Twitter a few days ago and pretty much stated in unequivocal terms that she's not interested. "Sequels generally suck unless they were planned as part of a trilogy or series. I think Doubtfire ended where it needed to end." Bit harsh, no?
She went on, saying that they haven't contacted her yet about it and that she had "many, many reasons" she wasn't interested in rejoining. The lady doth protest too much, perhaps? Maybe. Either way, she's out and the film is still going ahead.
