My admiration and downright love for Heat and The Insider helmer Michael Mann is very much documented. I once vocalised to a group of friends that i would fight any one of them that slagged his movie version of Miami Vice, and numerous scuffles ensued.

Anyhow, according to Variety the director is looking to make another crime movie, this time about real-life Chicago mob boss Tony Accardo. The flick would be called Big Tuna, and Mann has commissioned Shedlon Turner, who co-wrote the brilliant Up In The Air, to bash out a screenplay. There is no studio involvement at this stage, so the project is being put together on spec and then brought to the majors for funding - lord knows Mann doesn't make 'em cheap.

Mann is producing Dustin Hoffman/Nick Nolte HBO series Luck, with Deadwood creator, David Milch, and has directed the pilot which is apparently amazing.
