We're big fans of Robert Downey Jr. / Guy Ritchie's take on Sherlock Holmes, so we're pretty excirah' about this news.
As Guy Ritchie's on the press tour for The Man From UNCLE with his longtime producer, Lionel Wigram, the topic of a third Sherlock Holmes movie came up during a recent interview.
According to Wigram, there's been talk. "We’re working on a Sherlock Holmes 3 script. I think we would all love to do one if we could come up with something that really was really going to knock it out of the park and was going to be the best of the three. So we’re working on that - it’s quite hard to do."
Downey Jr. is on record about how much he loves playing the character, stating previously that he'd happily go between Tony Stark and Sherlock Holmes for the rest of his career.
Likewise, Wigram confirmed that both Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. are "very, very" interested in reprising their roles.
The catch for it all is Guy Ritchie, who's quite a busy man. As well as promoting The Man From UNCLE, he also has his King Arthur movie with Charlie Hunnam to shoot next.
It may be, however, that we're reaching a saturation point with Sherlock Holmes. You've got the BBC / Benedict Cumberbatch version, you've got the US / Jonny Lee Miller version, Ian McKellen's Mr. Holmes did quite well also so there's plenty there already.
Likewise, A Game Of Shadows was four years ago, so it's entirely possible that Guy Ritchie's take may have left the minds of the audience for quite some time.
