The Light House Cinema in Smithfield, Dublin, and Pálás, Galway, are presenting an entire season of witch-themed movies to mark the Halloween season.
There are a variety of family favourites and cult horror classics on offer, from all through the years.
The season starts on Monday 22nd when George Miller’s 80s dark fantasy-comedy ‘The Witches of Eastwick’ starring Jack Nicholson, Susan Sarandon, Cher and Michelle Pfeiffer, screens as part of Cinema Book Club. The movie is adapted from John Updike’s novel of the same name. It screens in Pálás on Tuesday the 23rd.
Before the release of the remake of ‘Suspiria’, the 1977 cult movie from Dario Argento is screening in Dublin and Galway on Thursday the 25th. Another seminal horror being shown is ‘The Blair Witch Project’ on Friday 26th October at 10pm, which is bound to be terrifying on the big screen.
Family-friendly movies being screened include ‘Hocus Pocus’ (Sat 27 3pm) and ‘The Wizard of Oz’ (Sun 28 3pm). The former will also be screened as part of a double bill with teenage misfit movie ‘The Craft’ late on Saturday night.
A newer film on the line-up, ‘The Witch’, is showing on Sunday night, not to be confused with ‘The Witches’, based on Roald Dahl’s classic, which is showing Monday October 29th at 4pm. Screening later that day at 6.15pm is Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock starrer ‘Practical Magic’, followed by ‘The Love Witch’ at 8.30pm.
A heap of other Halloween-related and scary movies are also being screened at the two cinemas this month, including a 40th anniversary screening of ‘Halloween’ on October 10th. ‘Beetlejuice’ (from October 26th), ‘Donnie Darko’ and ‘The Evil Dead’ (both October 31st) will also be shown at both locations while ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ will be screened in 35mm at the Light House (October 13th) and ‘The Lost Boys’ is getting screened at Pálás (October 25th).
