By now, you'll have no doubt watched - and probably re-watched - the first footage from Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One.

The film is, far and away, Spielberg returning to fun filmmaking and it looks like it's going to be riddled with endless pop culture references, much like Ernest Cline's source material.

So, with that in mind, we've gone right ahead and begun pointing out the multitude of nods, winks and references on display in the film.

Let's begin with the music - does it sound familiar? That's because it's from the soundtrack to Charlie & The Chocolate Factory. It's an orchestral, hyped-up version of Pure Imagination. The book - and presumably the film - is essentially taking its conceit from Roald Dahl's children's novel. Not only that, Spielberg is a noted fan of Dahl as well.

So, on to the visual stuff. First up, it's...

Yup, that's the Iron Giant from Brad Bird's hugely underrated animated film of the same name.

That's Freddy Kruger from A Nightmare On Elm Street there on the right, and just there beside him is...

That's '90s PC gaming hero Duke Nukem. Also worth pointing out that the guy in the middle is using the MA3 Assault Rifle from Halo, too.

That red car on the right is a '58 Plymouth Fury, which was featured in Stephen King's Christine and John Carpenter's film adaptation of the same name. What's that black van behind it? Why it's...

The GMC Vandura, better known as the van from The A-Team.

And yes, obviously, that's the DeLorean DMC-12 from Back To The Future that's going well over 88 miles an hour.

There's a good chance we missed some references, not to mention the fact that there'll be tons more in the film itself. Let us know which ones we missed in the comments!
