Leonardo DiCaprio has been defending his upcoming movie The Wolf of Wall Street. Despite getting rave reviews there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the Martin Scorsese directed movie.
Speaking to Variety, DiCaprio said, 'I hope people understand we're not condoning this behaviour, that we're indicting it. The book was a cautionary tale, and if you sit through the film, you'll realise what we're saying about these people and this world, because it's an intoxicating one.People - no matter what their attitude is after seeing the film - should understand this is a film that's outside the box and very difficult to get done in this day and age; it almost never happens'. The movie follows Jordan Belfont and his rags to riches rise on Wall Street.
He also went onto to praise Scorsese saying, 'I think it's amazing somebody like Martin Scorsese is still making films that are vital and talked about, and have an element of controversy about them and are appealing to people of my generation. We grew up watching his films and he's still making stuff that’s punk rock. It's an amazing achievement.'
Director Scorsese got heckled at a recent screening at the Academy as some members didn't take kindly to the some of the debauchery the film depicted. Speaking about the screening actress Hope Holiday said, 'Same disgusting crap over and over again - after the film they had a discussion which a lot of us did not stay for.The elevator doors opened and Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese and a few others got out. Then a screenwriter ran over to them and started screaming, 'Shame on you'. Disgusting.' Leonardo DiCaprio might have to kiss his Best Actor nomination goodbye. The Wolf of Wall Street opens on the 17th January 2014.
