In the wake of Room and its Best Picture nomination, Lenny Abrahamson's career shows no signs of flagging - and he's already got a number of projects lined up for the forseeable future.

The first up is The Little Stranger, which sold its international distribution rights to Focus Features at Cannes yesterday for an undisclosed sum. The film, which will star Charlotte Rampling, our own Domhnall Gleeson and The Affair's Ruth Wilson, is described as a World War II-set ghost story about a remote and aged estate that's rumoured to be haunted.

The Little Stranger is based on the 2009 novel of the same by Sarah Waters, which was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and received rave reviews for its gothic and unsettling tone.

THR's report has it that the film is to begin shooting this summer with a view to a 2018 release, so don't be in the least bit surprised if this makes it way into the Oscar race.
