The rumours are true and the pop star will join Joaquin Phoenix in 'Joker: Folie à Deux'.
Lady Gaga has confirmed that she's got a pivotal role in the second 'Joker' film. The 36-year-old pop star was rumoured to be up for the role of Harley Quinn earlier this summer - but that fact is still yet to be confirmed.
One would presume that to be the case, but we're still being left in the dark on that one, unfortunately. Gaga confirmed her role in 'Joker: Folie à Deux' by revealing a musical tease which she posted on social media yesterday.
Only a matter of seconds long, the post is set to old-timey music and features simple shadow animations of Phoenix as Joker and Gaga as, presumedly, Quinn. Said music is actually 'Cheek to Cheek', which the pop star has covered in the past alongside Tony Bennett.
Check out the teaser below.
The news comes just a day after the official release date was reported, with the film set to release in cinemas on October 4, 2024. The film will feature musical numbers, which lines up with this brief new tease.
Director Todd Phillips will return to helm the upcoming release, and he confirmed the 'Folie à Deux' subtitle back in June, which refers to a delusional disorder shared between two or more people, usually members of the same family.
Although Lady Gaga didn't confirm outright that she'll be playing Harley Quinn in 'Joker 2', it's probably a safe bet that this is the case. Ever since 'A Star Is Born', Gaga has been a hot property in terms of big-name film releases and most recently played Patrizia Reggiani in 'House of Gucci'.
Although Warner Bors is the production company in charge of 'Joker', the Joaquin Phoenix production is set in a different universe to the DCEU, a universe which already features Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn (and Jared Leto as Joker).
