Denzel Washington was walking the red carpet in LA last night for the premiere of his upcoming movie, Flight, joined by fellow actors Melissa Leo and Brian Geraghty.

Flight sees Washington play an alcoholic pilot who narrowly prevents a plane crash when he manges to land his plane safely when it breaks down. The official blurb for the movie says 'Flight tells the redemption story of 'Whip' , a commercial airline pilot who pulls off a heroic feat of flying in a damaged plane, saving 98 lives on a flight carrying 106 people. While the world begs to embrace him as a true American hero, the everyman struggles with this label as he is forced to hold up to the scrutiny of an investigation that brings into question his behaviour the night before the doomed flight.'

Speaking about his character at last night's premiere 'He lies, he manipulates people, he drinks too much.' Washington said 'He's an experienced airline pilot who's also a raging alcoholic. He does try for the first two or three days right after the crash, to not drink,Then when he finds out what the consequences are, he walks unfortunately right past a bar. One leads to 100.' He added that he hopes the film will reach people with its themes of addiction: 'I'm not one to talk a whole lot about movies I've done, because quite frankly after I've done the press, I've said all I can possibly say. This is a different film. It might spark different conversation'

Judging by the trailer the film is definitely one to watch with a mix of funny, serious and dramatic scenes. Directed by Robert Zemeckis whose last live action film was Castaway in 2000, Washington will be joined by John Goodman and Don Cheadle.  The film will be released in Ireland on the 1st February 2013.
