Rap group Kneecap have a fictionalised music biopic on the way featuring none other than Michael Fassbender.
Kneecap's Naoise Ó Cairealláin, JJ Ó Dochartaigh, and Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh star in this fictionalised origin story about how this Irish language rap group came to be. They take on different stage monikers for the movie with Cairealláin as Móglaí Bap, Dochartaigh as Dj Provaí, and Hannaidh as Mo Chara.
Fassbender plays Cairealláin’s onscreen dad, Arlo, with Simone Kirby as his mother Dolores. Josie Walker, Fionnuala Flaherty, Jessica Reynolds, and Adam Best also star. Rich Peppiatt writes and directs the film, with Trevor Birney and Jack Tarling producing.
The official logline reads: "When fate brings Belfast schoolteacher JJ into the orbit of self-confessed ‘low life scum’ Naoise and Liam Og, the needle drops on a hip hop act like no other. Rapping in their native Irish language, Kneecap fast become the unlikely figureheads of a Civil Rights movement to save their mother tongue.
"But the trio must first overcome police, paramilitaries & politicians trying to silence their defiant sound - whilst their anarchic approach to life often makes them their own worst enemies.
"In this fiercely original sex, drugs and hip-hop biopic 'Kneecap' play themselves, laying down a global rallying cry for the defense of native cultures."
