She is now the ripe old age of 89, so it's fair to say that Judi Dench has had a good innings in terms of a lengthy career.
However, the iconic actress has hinted that her 60+ year career in film and TV might finally be at an end, and that her most recent role - in 2022's 'Spirited' - may be her last.
Dench suffers from macular degeneration of the eyes - a condition that can be age-related and is the UK's biggest cause of sight loss - but had previously told Louis Theroux that she was determined to keep working despite the condition. "I don’t want to retire," she said during an interview for his 'Louis Theroux Interviews....' series last year. "I’m not doing much at the moment because I can’t see. It’s bad. I have a photographic memory so a person saying to me, ‘This is your line…’ I can do that."
However, when Dench was asked about her future projects while attending the Chelsea Flower Show over the weekend, she told a journalist: "No, no. I can’t even see!"
She didn't elaborate and neither she nor her agent had anything to add when later contacted by the press.
Dench's glittering career has included roles as M in the 'Bond' series, 'Philomena', 'Mrs. Brown', 'Notes on a Scandal' and more, as well as numerous Shakespeare theatre roles.
