Some had strong feelings while others were unsure what to think when it emerged earlier this month that actor Jude Law would be taking on the role of young Albus Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel.
The role was brought to life in the Harry Potter series by the late Richard Harris and subsequently Michael Gambon, but can Law live up to the hype around the role?
The actor has finally broken his silence on taking on the iconic part in an interview with BBC.
He said: "My first port of call, I hope, is to meet JK Rowling and to talk exactly about that and find out who he is, and who she wants him to be."
"[I want to] learn a little bit more about her vision of this great man as a young man."
So it sounds like he’s determined to stay loyal to the character and to Rowling’s universe, which can only be a good thing.
As for his feelings towards working on the project, he described himself as "only excited by the whole prospect," but also admitted he did feel "an element of fear".
He continued: "I think all good jobs have an element of fear... because you want to do well by it. You want to please people and you want to please yourself."
